I was excited to visit Michael Landy's Acts of Kindness exhibition in Sydney on Sunday. This exhibition was included in Concrete Playground, a cultural newsletter filled with all kinds of fun stuff to do in Sydney (and Melbourne, Brisbane & Auckland)
Lucia and Eva were on a mission to find as many puzzles pieces as possible, walking all the way from Martin Place, down to the Quay and back up to the Pitt St Mall without complaining at all. All the stories that we read were so heartwarming, from the simplest of being able to give directions to a lost person to someone giving another person their umbrella on a rainy day and a stranger helping another stranger for an hour to get their car started...such beautiful stories that really cemented the fact that human beings for the most part are good and generous.
The family - that shot of Lucia is perfect. That's her in a nutshell: "C'mooooooon!!"
We took a turn down Angel Pl and discovered upon the most beautiful artwork any of us had ever seen. Forgotten Songs is a representation of all the Australian native birds that used to live in the CBD area before it was turned into a city. Each cage represents an extinct bird or a bird that has been pushed to the outer fringes of the city in search of native vegetation.
Not only were cages part of the exhibition but there were recordings of these birds playing - in tune with the cars and buses, making it quite a surreal experience (you never hear birds in the city). I felt quite privileged to have seen this art and to have the kids feel so excited by it (Siena took about a bazillion photos - ran my battery out!)- I highly recommend having a look of possible.
We also squeezed in a visit to the fabulous Darling Quarter, which is AMAZING! Definitely taking Lucia out of school for a day and going back (it was crazy crowded - crazy!!)- it's that good! Don't forget your swimmers!
