doing what I want, not what I should...

Like making another patchwork bag for my niece Abbey's birthday on the weekend. Yes the same weekend we have 2 markets...how is it that many, many weekends go by and we just laze around at home and then one weekend happens to have enough activity for a month...strange!

I am making this bag bigger than Eva's, as I am finding it a bit of a squash getting sheets in her bag plus all the little treasures she needs to take to pre school to help her sleep. The last time Abbey came here for a play she bought a Hello Kitty doll with a head the size of our TV! As usual all the fabric is from my scrap bucket. I didn't really have a theme, just pretty as Abbey is quite girly and a touch of green.

Rather than cut out her name from felt which I did for Eva's bag, I decided to bite the bullet, watch Kootoyoo's tutorial and bloody well embroider it! I am pretty happy with the result. That 'A' was stitched, un picked and re stitched again 3 times!! I found the stitch was easy but you really need to get a flow going, then I found my stitches became more even and I settled into it, does that make sense? I was worried about making mistakes so I was trying too hard and it looked a bit stop start stop start, but after a little while I just got the rhythm and it was fun!

oh yes, and this gorgeous ribbon tag blankety thing. Isn't this cute! That's almost the last of my Heather Ross Lightning Bugs fabric, and I am so happy I used it, the fabric is ultra soft and looks great with all those ribbons. I made this for a mum at school who had her third baby a little while ago, every time I would see her I just felt so bad I hadn't made her anything, so putting market sewing aside for an evening I made this and I just love it.

2 blog posts in 2 days, I'm on a roll!

Its great to be able to do something just for fun, rather than for work! Your embroidery looks amazing.

Doing what you want is always so much more fun though, isn't it? I'm with you on the Heather Ross fabric, gorgeous designs and just such beautiful softness to the fabric. And that embroidery looks great!
