quiet but busy

When my spool holder went careening over and onto the floor this morning, throwing all its reels under and around the bed I knew I needed to tidy and organise better my sewing area (always revising this area, always!) for the new season of market sewing. The holidays have meant that my sewing has been sporadic at best, so many projects started and put aside, the iron board is groaning under the weight of hems and casings that need ironing and BFB clothes that need labelling - it's all looking a little like a bomb went off!

Organising meant refolding a lot of my stash and realisng that there is a shite load of fabric that I am stashing for no good reason (there is some fabric being stashed for very good reasons though mind you!), sometimes you just need to go through it and damn well use it rather than have it sit collecting dust! I need to come face to face with hoarding at times because it's a trait I really detest in myself, it's easy to be in denial about how much you have when you can't really see it all, so getting it all out on the bed and going through it makes denial kinda tricky!

In Barefoot Babies news, we are slowly gearing up for a couple of markets soon. In a deviation from our usual Mathilda location, we decided to head south to Canberra for something new. I am excited about going, I haven't been there since my year 6 trip to see Parliament House and going on a road tip with my sister (and Neve) will be all kinds of fun. We are also going to Billycart Markets which looks gorgeous, and just what we like.

I couldn't not post this gorgeous picture of scrappy squares. Do you remember that patchwork bag I made for Evie? Andrew's work colleague saw it and wants one just like it but in purple - I was so happy to oblige - working out of the scrap bucket is so good, there are fabrics in there I had forgotten about. Whilst I was cutting squares for her bag, Siena wanted one too for her school gym clothes so I just decided to cut squares out of all the fabrics so I could have a little basket of scraps at my machine for sewing when I had nothing else to do!

Thanks for sharing pics of your stash, such pretty fabrics. I really want a spool holder like yours. I'll be sending that pattern to you this week, I have been abit 'quiet but busy' lately myself.

Hoarding aside it's a great looking pile of fabrics you got there.

Ahhh... a scrap bucket! That is what I need. I'm always at a loss re: what to do with the scraps.
I love your spool holder btw :)

As a fellow fabric hoarder, I have nothing healthy to comment. I love your fabrics. See? Enabler.

When I was unpacking my sewing room, I had the same realization that I SHOULD cut the "good" fabrics... what was I waiting for?

Can't wait to see the new patchwork bags you make! Eva's is so adorable.

You made me ponder my stash of yarn upstairs, hidden away in drawers. I'm not ready to pull it out though and look at it - I want to keep stashing it ;) lol

You're fabric collection looks lovely, as do your spools. Sigh.

A good clean up, purge and re-evaluating what you need I think is such a good thing. It is just keeping it that way that I find a bit tricky!
