quiet but busy

It's been sooooo long since I was here, in this little space - I have been thinking of here, and wanting to be here but the days have been long and busy and I haven't managed to find the time!

Christmas was a 4 day affair, I kid you not! It started on Christmas Eve with an awesome feast put on by my sister in law with every food type you can imagine, eating on the balconey, kiddies running wild, pressies, music, wine and indulgence. We continued along this kind of route for the next 3 days visiting family and eating our way to now.

My favourite activity of late has been doing some lazy fun sewing. I got my little mitts on some Hope Valley which made my heart swell a little (actually a lot!) I bought 3 yards of Thistle Leaf in the New Day colour with the Schoolhouse Tunic pattern in mind (Mel's pattern actually - isn't it awesome having a sister with the same love as you!!)

It was actaully fantastic when the weather cooled right down after Christmas and I could wear this (over jeans and a white tank top), it was one of the rare occasions that I actually felt really good with my fabric and pattern choice. I think this would be an excellent beach dress as well, in cheesecloth or a batiste. If you are thinking about this pattern I would highly recommend it, it's very easy and the directions are excellent - I didn't make a single mistake (another rarity for me).

It also helpped having this puppy finally working. Andrew, bless his soul, worked for hours on this and finally got it doing a 4 thread stitch, we (andrew is, ahem) are working on understanding the other 9 stitches but just having one working is bliss!! No more zig zagging, what a time saver!

Andrew also made me a beautiful shelf today (I know, he is awesome) to try and help get my sewing paraphenalia under control (I can't believe how much stuff I have accumulated in the past couple of years!). he would like a wee bit of the bedroom back so hopefully this extra storage will help him in his reaquaintance with the bed and chest of drawers...

I just bought some material the other day to make the schoolhouse tunic. It is a really light pink cotton. I can't wait to wear it! Yours is gorgeous.

It is great to have a partner that is a friend too... and what a great friend helping you work out the overlocker and creating some storage solutions for you.

My partner is often called on for moral support when things aren't going to plan. He has viewed the DVD that came with overlocker with me multiple times now ;)

Sounds like you had a wonderful festive season - I am so glad.

I love the tunic, I might have to try making one myself! Having read Kate's blog tonight and seeing her getting into using a pattern I'm getting quite inspired! I like the way the tunic can be worn in different ways and that you could use different fabric. I love that your Adam helps you and cares for you the way he does, how sweet and thoughtful. As for overlockers...I have one in my room that I still haven't mastered..another thing for the list! xo

It's so funny that you posted about this tunic b/c I have the pattern traced and ready to go and only have to choose what fabric to buy. I was just googling it to find pics of what other people had done. Glad to hear it was easy to follow. What type of material would you suggest, having made it?

Hi - I just a got an elna 5 thread serger this fall. I would highly recommend taking a class at your local sewing machine dealer. The dealer where I purchased mine gave me one with the purchase of my serger. We went through all of the machine's stitches in class. It was very helpful. Good-luck with your serger, I love mine!

The tunic is so pretty, and the fabric is gorgeous.

What a sweet hubby you have! And patient, too. I still can't get my overlock to sew 4 threads... I can only get 3. I'll mail mine to Andrew, OK? ;)

Are you renting Andrew out as I am sure that I have a great list of jobs around here since it is my job to do the 'bloke jobs'. Glen couldn't put together ikea shelving let alone from scratch, not that he isn't a keeper of course
